Liberal Cooperative Law in Other States

Cooperatives across the states with parallel law, will be member sensitive, member responsible and member controlled democratic organisations, clearly accountable to members and work efficiently as tools for the socio economic development of their members.

 

Parallel Law division of Sahavikasa envisages that people make informed choice of forming cooperatives under the new parallel law with clear perception and understanding of the contents and implications of this liberal law.

 

To make this vision a reality, Sahavikasa has taken up a two-pronged approach:

  1. propagation of parallel law; and
  2. promotion of cooperatives under parallel law.

 

Sahavikasa has make it a policy to pursue both these approaches only through collaboration with local institutions and individuals of respective states.

 

To build up awareness among cooperators, legislators, administrators, NGOs, Media and through them the general public on the contents and implications of the parallel law, workshops, seminars, conferences at state and regional level are organised.

 

For the dissemination, Sahavikasa helps to bring out various publications like newsletter, occasional papers, etc. In addition, it also helps local institutions to publish respective parallel laws in local languages with commentary.

 

Sahavikasa encourages and assists individuals and institutions, desirous of promoting swa-kru-shi model thrift cooperatives, in forming cooperative development organisations (CDOs). This enables the local people to take initiative locally in a concentrated way. In addition, Sahavikasa conducts study visits for the representatives of CDOs to swa-kru-shi thrift cooperatives in Sahavikasa field work area. Training programmes on promotion and monitoring of cooperatives, feasibility workshops for setting up of various types of cooperatives and maintenance of accounts in thrift cooperatives, etc, are also conducted specifically for the representatives of CDOs.

 

Sahavikasa has a separate division for propagation and promotion activities in Andhra Pradesh. For various reasons, Sahavikasa does not work in Jammu & Kashmir. In rest of the states, Sahavikasa is encouraging and assisting the local initiatives for propagation and promotion of parallel law.
